This Isn't the Petition Response You're Looking For | We the People: Your Voice in Our Government:

'via Blog this'

The White House has a relatively new addition to its website:     https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petitions is a page where anyone can start a petition and, with enough signatures, receive an official response to their petition from the White House.   Responses to this new resource have been positive, and the page has made the news several times for interesting petitions.  One of the most humourous was the petition for a "Death Star," which was denied (see link in the title.)

Here is the link to the open petitions page:

In a comment below,

1.  Share your favorite open petition, and tell me why you like it.

2.  Briefly explain how the internet has changed the way we communicate, and how this has impacted the world.  Use the article above as an example in your explanation.

  1. 1. I like the petition on Ashley Hamilton. This is becuase people cannot help the way they are and sure don't need to be beat for it. It is not their fault for what is wrong with them. This clearly states that people ARE ALL DIFFERENT AND NOBODY IS THE SAME. People really do need a heads up and get their priorities straight. ABUSE is NOT the answer.

    2. The internet has really changed the way we communicate. This is because we now have emails and this takes the place of ways we talk to each other. I mean back in the day we had to talk to people to their face and now people want do that no more!!! The article above is talking about petitions that you can signed to show that your voice and opinion can be heard. Everyone deserves the right to be who they want to be and think what they want to think. All the unnessary drama just shows we are human and we all think different and are not alike.

  2. One of my favorite petitions was the one supporting an investigation into the assault of Ashley Hamilton. Abuse is not the answer to any situation. It does not solve anything and no one deserves to be treated like that. In this situation, this girl was disabled and was abused. She had no way to defend herself. Whoever did this, their punishment should be to the fullest. Abuse, in any form, can make people physically, and especially mentally, scarred for life.
Internet has can be a positive or negative thing. A positive aspect would be the ability to sign petitions for something you, and other people, feel strongly about to all come together and work toward a change. A negative aspect would be all the drama that can be started on the Web. So many people don't actually think about what they are saying. They just type and type, and once it is posted, sometimes that one comment can never be taken away. Whereas in person you might not necessarily say what you typed because you think before you speak, some people that is.

The internet has change alot since the along time ago ages its got more harder to access but you can do it everywhere now but we can access communication by Facebook ,twitter Myspace and by Google and Gmail and its getting more popular each and everyday

    1. Good thoughts, Shawn, but watch your run-on sentences. I always re-read what I write before I publish anything, just to make sure it makes sense and is grammatically correct. Reading it out loud is the best way to check for errors.

  4. I like the one about the same sex marriage. For one if people want the same sex, then let them do it. Im not against it or with so if they want to then just let them do them and you do you....

  5. I like the one about same sex marriage. The reason is because you can marry who you please. It's not anybodies buisiness who you can to be with. Even if we didn't allow them to get married they would still be together so why try to stop them.

The internet has changed tremendously since along time ago. Now you can communicate when ever you want and in many ways. Peole along time ago had to send letters or find the person and talk face to face and now you just pick up your phone and text them or call them.

  6. the "reinstate the public tours of the White House. This is the people's house and they deserve the opportunity to tour it!" petition is my favorite because it is completely true.

  7. 1. I find the petition to remove "In God We Trust" from all legal tender interesting. This nation was founded on the concept of God and now Americans are trying to wipe God away from their lives. This is what is wrong with America. We need to let God back into our schools and our lives.
    2. Communication has changed greatly by using the internet. Before we had to talk face to face or write a letter. Now we can communicate almost instantly with others through the internet. Now people can come together and sign petitions to get something done in this country. The internet allows people to communicate and share useful ideas.

  8. I like the thing on Ashley Hamilton. This is becuase all people cannot help god made them and dont need to be punished for it. they have no cause on why they are how they are. this really states that all people are diffrent and dont judge people on how they are. people need to understand that anger and hurt is not the answer to solving stuff and problems.

I also like the one about marrying, people should marry who they fall in love with, either if its the same sex or not I think if your in love male&male is good female&female, i mean i know its weird but, they are diffrent and you shouldnt worrie about them.

What i think about the internet is that it is not doing nothing to help us. The internet is taking away feelings, because you cant express feeling=s over an email or an internet website, back in my dads days they talked in person and face to face. the internet has more bad stuff in it then good stuff

  11. 1. My favorite petition was "Define the Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group due to promoting animosity against differing cultural demographics." Yes, I think they deserve to be a hate group for the things they do. Its very sad how they can harass people at military funerals, even when the soldier's family is dealing with the loss. And its ridiculous how they made a website about how God hates gay people. They claim to be christian, but they believe that God hates people? They just need to remember that God hates the sin but not the sinner.

    2. The internet has definitely changed the way we communicate. A long time ago, you only had a phone to just call. But now, you can use websites such as Facebook to message.

  12. I like the one that says "Grant instant U.S. citizenship to any Mexican who can make a killer fish taco." The internet hasn't changed the way a taco is made. https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/tosh0-3-%E2%80%93-grant-instant-us-citizenship-any-mexican-who-can-make-killer-fish-taco/tKMFcJ9v

I like "Give Nicholas Cage the Declaration of Independence" because he was a good actor in that movie "National Treasure". https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/give-nicolas-cage-declaration-independence/yRkpXNbD

  13. We should give Nicolas Cage the Declaration of Independence. Having stolen the Declaration once, so whats stopping him from doing it again. I think he chooses not to out of the pure kindness of his heart. We should reward him for his work as an actor and a historian by being given the Declaration of Independence. Obviously it can't be stolen from him, so if we give it to him we'll always know where it is.Thus eliminating a lot of heart ache.

  14. 1. I like the one that is requiring the Congressman and the Senators to wear logos of representing companys and indivdual people. It would let us know what the person of the Congress and Senators, think of what they wanna know how they look at the person. They are voting for cause you would wanna vote for someone that you think you would have more in common with than someone that doesn't even have anything you like about them because, once you vote for them and they are in the Congress and Senator offices. They can't leave for a while. It's just like a nascar driver you tind to go for the person you like either cause of the logos or just the driver. But, anyway once that the person is elected they would still have to wear this logo til they leave the office. I think it is a good idea cause you would get to see the person's favortie company, bank, people, etc..

    2. The internet is changing everyday, you have all these chat sites and you also have these places like Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr and etc. The more places that people use is the chat site that we use facebook is what we are using now. It used to be Myspace but then, facebook was made so the internet people went to facebook. I think facebook souldn't have been made but, it's also a good thing because there are some family and friends we can't even talk to other than over the internet..

  15. 1. I think the petition that says "I would like to create a National Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) Awareness Week." It could help get more people involved. It would help get the word out to the service members and their families that they are not alone in this fight.
    2. The way people communicate has changed greatly from the past. Internet can be helpful in some ways but it some ways it can't. The internet is helpful because when you need to look something up, you can about find it anywhere on the internet. The way it would not be helpful would be because the internet has taken away the communication from people. People send emails or talk through face book rather then talking in person. Also the internet is getting where kids can't even get on it because of all of the language and bad things that are on the internet.

    ReplyDelete
  16. 1. I like the "Stop Hurting Ability to Benefit Students" petition. This is because every student does deserve to get an education and have a better future. If you was to take that away from them then they would have to turn to crimes and other things to get them in jail. An as they said we already have overcrowded jails, so why deny them? I think every child should be able to make a better future so they can make something of their lives.
    2. The internet has changed the way we communicate because now we can communicate with people half way across the world with out using a phone or transportation. The internet has also had a bad affect on society because of "cyber bullying." People can now talk down to people not only at school and in public but now over the internet where everyone and anyone can see it. The internet is also good because you can communicate with family and friends you don't get to see every day.

    ReplyDelete
  17. 1.I like "Invest in classroom broadband connectivity to ensure that all students are ready for college and 21st century career" Petition. Technology has become a HUGE part of everyday life. In a couple of years when we are all graduated from high school, things will be even more advanced than they are now. I believe that investing in this will better us for what is to come. We need to be better prepared for what the future holds. It's time for education system to catch up.

    2. The internet has changed the way of communicating in many ways. Some good and some bad. The internet gives people and business more opportunity to thrive. It has many resources for being successful in life. For people in college, it allows students to communicate with their professors when they need help immediately. It has affected the way people communicate in bad ways, too. Things are no longer face to face. People have less social skills and ability to interact with other people because they can now do it through the internet. So, it is bittersweet.

I like the one about impeaching president Obama for abuse of power. The reason is because The destruction and abuse of our United States Constitution, mostley our 1st-5th amendments, and also the 10th. For the forceing of his healthcare plan. For not holding up to his vows and promise to protect and uphold the united states constitution and the united states citizens. Breaking publicized promises. An for abuseing of the American public social and constitutional liberties.

The internet has changed alot over the years its changed where you can go anywhere now and talk to each other. We can access communication by Facebook ,twitter, Myspace and by Google, and Gmail and its getting more popular each and everyday.

  28. Same sex marriage, The Constitution says that everyone is equal, but by revoking same sex couples' privilege to marry is unconstitutional. If gays and lesbians want to get married they should be able to, I find it ridiculous that they have to surround capital buildings. 2. Communication has changed a lot by using the Internet. 31. 1. The petition to remove "In God We Trust" was the petition I like. It really caught my attention that people are trying to take God out of everything we do and say. I think we need to let God back into schools and every day lives. The constitution says that we have the freedom of expression. Whether it be in religion or music or anything else.
    2. Communication over the years has changed greatly due to the internet. For so many years, people had to write letters or even talk face to face with someone. Now all it takes is the click of your mouse and you are talking to someone. I think it was a great invention and will help many people over the years to come.

  33. 1. I think that the whole DEA and the accusistions of marijuana are vulgar. Marijuana is a plant as is tabacco. Tabacco has caused more deaths than marijauna has. Marijauna can help control certian kinds of cancer and keep people calm whilst tabacco has more than 400 carciningins it the smoke itself. And the people that are in jail for the charges of marijuana should be released because they were trying to make money their way.

The invention of the telegraph, telephone, radio, and computer set the stage for this unprecedented integration of capabilities. The internet has changed the way people communiicate, big time. If we post something on the internet, someone in China can see it in 2 seconds. Back in the day, you had to drive, fly, or swim to deliever a message. Also, you can type someone's name in the internet and find their whole life story, their criminal records, their anything and everything. We used to have all these things written down on paper and stored away.

North Korea is threatening several different countries and the root of the conflict is between them and South Korea. If peace was restored between these two countries this world would be a better place.
The internet has changed our communication drastically. We can now communicate with people faster than ever. I could send an Email with someone in Europe and could get it in a matter of minutes. Also, we can communicate and have a larger voice in our government thanks to the internet. We can now get online, make and sign petitions that goes strait to the White House.

  45. 1. My favorite petition is the one trying to investigate the Ashley Hamilton case. She can't help the way she is. I can't believe her caretakers actually beat her. If they didn't like her or want to take care of her that badly, why didn't they just get someone else to take the job? I don't understand how anyone could beat anyone, let alone someone with autism or special needs. They need to be punished for doing that to her.

  47. 1) I agree with the petition for legalizing prostition and sex working. It has no connection to me what so ever, I just have a good reason. See America is always complaining about running out of room in prisons/jails. This is one reason why, they're making laws that doesn't make that big of a difference in american everyday life. Besides making some parents disappointed in they're son or daughter, its not doing much harm. It could be the persons only way of making money or maybe they just like doing it. Either way, it's that specific person's right to do what they will with they're bodies. If thats what they choose thats them, the goverment shouldn't have any choice in there personal job decisions. Besides, it's not like the prostitutes in America are going to stop doing what they do just because it's against the law.

2)The internet has changed millions of things about communication now a days. A few examples, we have Facebook, even though most teens and sadly some adults, use it for pointless status updates like "I'm eating a taco #YOLO", it has helped some folks stay in touch with across country or out of town/state loved ones. We having dating websites now (ya know because people can't just wait for God to send someone for them, like freaking FarmersMatch.com) to help lonely or forever alone people make couples. It has however had downsides, such as cyber bullying, meeting murders/creepers, and has given away too much personal information. It has caused some fights, you know like Facebook "you took my boyfriend (who wasn't even your boyfriend) from me". So, yes internet changed a lot of things for communication in positive and negative ways.

  48. One petition that i like is the one that is trying to take "under God" out of the Pledge of Allegiance. I for one am a Atheist, and there are many others with beliefs such as mine. If the U.S. is not a 100% christian country, then we should change the Pledge of Allegiance. we have constitutional rights to practice, or not to practice any religion we choose. Many schools make kids stand up and say the Pledge of Allegiance. What if we don't want our kids to say it? Shouldn't it be something that we all can agree on to say? Something that shows that we are one country that isn't a religion occupied place? Another petition i like is the one where they want to, Establish a budget that sets compensation for members of the United States Congress at minimum wage. I think this is a very good petition because many Americans must live off of minimum wage every week, while the members of congress are living off of money up into the millions of dollars a year. while on the other hand many Americans are doing good to make around $55,000 per year.

  50. 1. I like the petition that wants to launch a full investigation into the assault of Ashley Hamilton. The reason I like this is because no one should be beaten because they have a disability. The caregivers should be beaten the same way they beat Ashley Hamilton.

    2. The internet has changed the way we communicate in many different ways. We can now talk through email, Facebook, and different sites that allow you to chat. Some of the ways are good and a some of the ways are bad. The internet helps people on different sides of the world to communicate easily. This is one of the good things about how the internet helps us to communicate. But the bad thing about how the internet helps us to communicate is that almost no one talks face to face anymore. The article above has a petition online . So that people like us can have our voice and opinion heard on things that we care about. I don't think that we should spend our taxpayers dollars on a death star.

  53. My favorite petition was the same sex marriage. I feel that a person should not be judged and denied the rights to marry just because the like the same sex.

I feel that the internet is having a positive and negative affect on our lives. Alot of people who are gay openly post it on facebook and they may get ridiculed.

  54. I am against same sex marriage. God created man and woman for a pretty good reason. Two guys can't make a baby. Two girls can't make a baby. One girl and one guy can make babies. It's not right for two of the same sex people to be able to be married.

  55. My favorite open petition is the one trying to ban inhumane and cruel practices of gas chamber euthanasia of shelter dogs and cats. I am glad to see someone trying to stop this inhumane treatment. Gas chamber euthanasia is making the animals suffer from carbon monoxide inhalation causing them to suffocate.

The internet has dramatically changed the way we communicate. This has impacted the world because people are losing their communication skills. There are positive and negative aspects of the way internet has changed. A positive aspect is that we can sign petitions like the ones we looked at. A negative aspect is that people are losing communication skills.

  56. 1. I found this petition the most interesting. Proclaim Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) as a disability. This syndrome lets your joint move past the normal range of motion. It is similar to Marfan Syndrome which is considered a disability.

    2. People used to have to communicate very different. Communication has evolved. We went from having to use a house phone to cell phone to text messages and email. Communication has impacted the world, we can communicate with people all over the world.

  57. My favorite petition is reinstate the public tours of the White House, because some citzens would like to look in the house and it seems suspious to me not leting citizens on thier own "house". I like the idea go going inside of the white house and lookin and seeing what it would be like to live in the White House.

  59. 1. I like the petition that grants instant U.S. citizenship to any mexican who can make a killer fish taco. This is a great petition because Americans suck at making tacos. We need more good taco maker in the U.S.

    2. The internet has defiantly changed our way of communicating. We email and talk to people who are distant. Most peoples voices used to not be heard but now we can make our own petition and now we can be heard.

  60. My favorite petition is the "Impeach Sen. Diane Feinstein for violating her oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, re: AWB" one. I find this petition to be not only hilarious but to be something I adamantly agree with. Feinstein has proposed a bill that would ruin our 2nd Amendment rights. I actually do not agree with guns at all, but we deserve to have them. The bill does not violate the amendment but it will open the door for future restrictions.

The internet has changed the way we can communicate immensely. Such as the petition to build a Death Star. 34 thousand people came together from across the U.S. to sign that and they didn't even leave their homes. Years ago it would have taken months alone to get the petition across the U.S. and collect the signatures, now it is as simple as clicking a button. If that is not a big change, I have no idea what is.

  61. 1. The petition I like the most is "Invest in classroom broadband connectivity to ensure that all students are ready for college and 21st century careers". I like this petition because it will help schools better its technological software to further students education in the new world of technology.

2.The Internet has totally changes the way we live. The interned provides a quicker was to do things we need done, just like these petitions we read about, it helps us get our opinion out to the world without going through a lot of trouble. For an example if we were to do it these petitions in person without a computer you would have have a lot of time on your hands and we would waist lots of money and our voice may not be heard, but if you use the internet you would have faster better results.

  62. 1. I like the petition that states, "Give Nicholas Cage the Declaration of independence." I find this hilarious because people are wanting to give an actor our Declaration of Independence, just because he saved it in a movie.

    https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/give-nicolas-cage-declaration-independence/yRkpXNbD

The internet has completely changed the face of how we communicate. People can talk and send mail over the internet and never actually see or talk to that person. People can be on social networking sites and google+ and all kinds of things. One positive aspect is that people who family in the military can contact them and comunicate with their families. A negative aspect is that people dont know how to communicate in person.

  63. I signed the "reinstate the White House tours" because we should be able to be in the people's house, our house, if they want to keep the president safe then they should have metal detectors and other thing to keep him and the first family safe.

  65. 1. I believe that the petition for senators and congressman to wear the logos of their financial backers on their clothes is a very smart idea. This would help the people clearly see what a senator believes in and his values. For instance if a congressman supported the idea of preserving a wildlife foundation(s)yet he is wearing the logo of a construction company that has been known to operate in say, rain forests, than people would defiantly rethink who they should trust in as their representative or congressman.

    2. Probably the most important petition for me on this site is the reinstating of military tuition assistance. A majority of the armed forces consist of teenagers who haven't done so well in school. The military gives them a second chance at life and can change them, make them more committed to being a help to their nation. These people risk their lives for our right to live in America its not fair if we take away tuition assistance. Surely we can repay veterans in that small way. However there do need to be limits. For Veterans to apply for these the need to be in active duty for the amount of years they plan on going to college. Also they're should be monthly check ups to ensure veterans are using this money to actually help with their tuition.

  66. "Legalize Marijuana For Personal Use At The Federal Level". This is my favorite petition because Marijuana's only known negative effect is Psychosis, and that is only known to occur due to extended usage. Alcohol and tobacco are legal and causes all sorts of diseases, and kills people in other ways too. I beleive Marijuana should be made legal because it doesn't hurt anyone. The enforcment of marijuana laws are unnessisarily harsh, and unnessisarily expensive.

The internet changed communication in a huge way. In the comfort of your own home you could hold a conversation with someone across the world. I believe the internet has made a huge change on us.

  67. http://chrome.angrybirds.com/ I find this petition of allowing gay men to donate blood to those who need it agreeable , because gay white men carry 11,200 and black carry 10,600 of HIV infections and it is much easier for men who doesn't use protection to catch diseases. The reason I agree to the petition is because not only gay men carry the largest percentages of diseases but young adults ( 18 to 24 ) carry the most infections of diseases. And the gay person might not have a disease.

The Internet has change the way we communicate with people and also how we find them. Way back in the days we didn't own much of technology but now the internet helps us finds jobs , lost family members , communicate with people all over town , Etc. It also has an positive and negative effects on life.

  68. My favorite petition is the one about Ashley Hamilton's assault. She cant help how she is, and there is no need to hurt her. Violence is never, ever the answer. The people that did this to her should be punished.

The internet has changed the way we communicate. There are so many different ways to communicate through the internet it's crazy. You can find jobs, keep up with friends, research anything, and even go to school. There are also some negative affects, but that comes with anything powerful.

    ReplyDelete
  69. 1.) I like the one on gay people cannot give blood. It shouldn't matter if your gay or not if you want to give blood to try and save many peoples lives out there then you should be able to no matter if your gay or not!!!

2.) The internet today has changed the way we communicate with people you can talk to them on all different sites on the internet. And it also allows you to sign a petitions on things like this. It also has a negative thing, people use the internet to start drama and to bully people. So the internet is a good thing and could be a bad thing also.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I took more interest in the "Ashley Hamilton" petition. Just because she was autistic didn't give her caregivers the rights to beat her. Nobody deserves to be beaten, especially people who can't help the way they are.
The internet has really changed the way people communicate. Now we use the internet to find jobs, to present stuff, to even have conversations. Also, we have kids on the internet all of the time now due to social websites and game sites instead of actually doing homework and stuff that is needed to get through life.

  72. My favorite petition is the one about Stop the Sequestration Cut to Cancer Care Drugs and Other Medicare Part B Drugs in Order to Avert a Cancer Care Crisis. Sequestration is being applied to medicare which is bad for the seniors but is devastating for the cancer fighting seniors.

  73. I don't agree with the government allowing people to carry guns because people will use them to get rid of other people they don't like. Owning a gun is good for shooting animals for food and bad for shooting humans. Many people has lost their lives caused by the use of guns. Sometimes people commit suicide with guns. This is an awful petition.

  74. I like the petition about gays giving blood. I don't think it should matter if they're gay or not. I think it's okay as long as they don't have anything. Their blood could save lives.

The Internet now is really different now. We can communicate in many ways. A lot of bad people use the Internet and start drama. Internet could be good and bad for us.

    ReplyDelete
  75. 1. I think the petition that says "I would like to create a National Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Awareness Week." It could help get more people involved. It would help get the word out to the service members and their families that they are not alone in this fight.

The internet has made it where we can communicate with people from across the world and you can share pictures, videos , and news and more.

  82. Alice Benton: 1.I like the petition on in god we trust because if it weren't for god and his son jesus we would not be here today and they try to take god of everything these day's but i think they have forgot it was god who created them and gave them what they have today if it weren't for god and his love for them they would have nothing ,no home,no family,no food or drinks and no nothing and if it weren't for god the world would be nothing but a ball of darkness being sucked down a black hole.

    Corrected:
I like the petition "In God we trust" because if it wasn't for God and his son Jesus we would not be here today, and they have forgotten who created them. They have forgot who gave them what they have today an if it wasn't for God and his love for them they would have nothing no home, family, food, and drinks, or anything. If it weren't for God the world would be nothing but a ball of darkness being sucked down in a black hole.

  83. I found "Outlaw adults smoking cigarettes in their vehicle while infants are present." interesting. Adults should not be able to smoke in the car with infants or children around. Adults should not be able to endanger small children who can;t do anything about it.
This could certainly impact the health of children and infants for the better. By putting this on the internet it could better promote the cause.

  84. The one I liked the most was the one about " Outlawing adults smoking cigarettes in their vehicle while infants are present." I like this one because its helping saving a child's life. Like, give them a chance not to have cancer. No child should have to suffer for something the parent is doing, even though it messes with their health to.

  85. I like the one about having an R2-D2 Day. Create a national R2-D2 Day whose motto is "selfless not selfish" and commemorates under appreciated heroes. I like that one alot because alot of people are underappreciated when they deserve more than what they get.

  86. I like the one on "Outlaw adults smoking cigarette in their vehicle while infants are present". I like that because I think its true that it should be illegal to smoke in the car while children are present. The reason I said because a lot of children has Asmara and its second hand smoke and it can also damage their body as their still developing.

  87. I like the one about same sex marriage. If someone wants to marry their own gender it really dont matter what anyone has to say, even though it's an abomination in Gods eyes we all have equal rights.

The internet has changed alot it has better ways of connecting with your family members or friends such as Facebook,Twitter,.. ect.

  88. I like the petition about gays giving blood I don't think they should stop them from giving blood as long as they are clear of diseases. Some people that are not gay may have a disease and can't give blood but some gay person may not and can give blood to whoever that really needs it that's my opinion on it.

The internet has changed a lot you c an connect with a lot of people that you haven't seen in along time and it helps with a lot more stuff.
