Facebook Reports Government Data Requests, US Leads With 12K During The First Half Of 2013 | TechCrunch:

Why would the government have programs such as PRISM and make requests for user data from Facebook, if it can tap the Internet and see your data as you use your computer?

  1. Because if they hacked user information from facebook without permission from the creators then they themselves would be comitting a federal offence even though they're the ones that created the law. Also even with them being the goverment I'm preety sure that some legal action could be taken against them for invading the personal information of facebook's users.

  2. I think that the government has that certain program, so people can get into someone's personal information. I think that it is bad, because no one should invade someone's privacy. It is also a crime, because the person doesn't know that they've been in their information.

  4. The government just wants to know what we doing on our alone time and they are trying to see what we are talking about with our friends. We call that being nosey because they shouldn't be all off in our Private Business!! It is our business, not theirs.! I can see if we were like being a threat to the government but trust me, to be honest they do not even really have the right to do that.. That's why i don't like white folk black folk. lol

  8. Well I think It's ok for them to hack non-Americans,but not citizens of America. I understand why they would want to do this though. In case terrorist were trying to communicate with each other on Facebook planning for an attack. We could hack their Facebook and find out where and when they are going to attack and destroy their whole operation. But it is not ok to monitor US citizens.

  9. Now, personally I completely understand why the government is trying to access our text messages, call logs, instant messages and now our Facebook pages. They are trying to stay a step ahead and prevent terrorist attacks from taking place in the United States. However, I believe their are other ways they can gain this information to prevent terrorist attacks from being planned and cared out on United States soil. I don't know the Constitution that well, but I think its infringing on the rights of United States Citizens.

  10. I understand that they're trying to hack into our social networking messages to keep ahead of the terrorist. But, I think there are other ways to do besides defiling everyone's privacy. While its not against our constitutional rights its immoral.

  14. I believe the government requests the data from Facebook rather than tapping in to it because it is much simpler to just ask for it. It is a lot easier for the government to just ask for the information rather than hacking into our computers for information. The government is trying to stay one step ahead of terrorists by monitoring social networks, emails, text messages, etc. In a way this is necessary to keep the United States safe from attack. On the other hand, the government is voiding our privacy and rights as U.S. citizens.

  15. They have the program called PRISM which makes it easier to collect the data they need from whatever you are whether its your call log or text messages, they can get into all of that. I think they have this program so they can stop something bad happens before it really happens, for example a terrorist attack.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I understand why the government has a program like PRISM because if anyone has something they are not suppose to have the government can check up on everyone and see what they are doing. The government is trying to protect America for having terrorist attacks and anything like that.

  18. They do that because if it wants all the data on your account, it is easier to just demand a wrapped package of information from Facebook than it is to slowly collect the same data as you use your account. So various systems are used to ensure that the government has whatever it wants, whenever it decides it necessary and they just really need it. So basically, they ask for you information, because it is easier to get it that way.

I can understand why they feel they should do this, but I also think that they are invading our privacy. I personally don't think they should do this, especially to U.S. citizens.

  23. the government is invading our privacy i think that is wrong because in the constitution it says we have the freedom of privacy! i mean if they wanna catch terrorist they need to do back grown check on they people they most likely suspect is a terrorist not someone whose not one!

  24. I can understand why the government wants to use programs such as PRISM. They are trying to protect the country from any attacks such as 9-11. It is better for them to request looking at your Facebook data rather than looking at it without your permission. I also think that it is invading our privacy, with them constantly watching our email, text messaging, and social media networks.

  25. I think this could be right for the government to do this but also not. Terroist are getting smarter and smarter on how to get into our personal information by hacking our text, instant messages, and now our Facebook pages. This could be a privacy issue. Most people disagree with the government keeping our information safe. The government is trying to stay one step ahead of terrorists by controlling social networking. In a way, this is a great way way for the government to keep us safe from attacks.

  26. I think Its kind of wrong to tap other people calls, messages, and Facebook page because people should have their own privacy. Now, the Government should understand that it's wrong to invade in other people privacy because people don't want other people to find out about what they been saying. The government should find another way to get any information instead of taping into other people privacy.

The Government should understand that it's wrong to invade in other people privacy I think that should be a crime if they invade someone’s privacy. They shouldn’t be able to go through all your personal business that’s why they need to have a certain program, so people can’t get into someone's personal information.

If the government is only doing it to prevent terrorist attacks I personally think that the government being "nosey" is okay because it maybe could prevent something terrible, and could possibly save lives in the future.

  37. The NSA access is part of a previously undisclosed program called Prism, which allows officials to collect material including search history, the content of emails, file transfers and live chats.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I believe the government wants to let you feel like you have digital privacy when the truth is that you have no privacy at all. The government asks the privacy question to lead you into thinking that they can't access your account.PRISM is designed to demand information from your account, whether you like it or not. To me, this is a good idea to be able to go into someone's account. For example, the government can keep tabs on terrorists,or other internet violators.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The United states is by far the most online used country. We have had between 11,000 and 12,000 users add to the blog facebook. There has been countless times someone has hacked your account and now knows where you live or go to school, etc. the Federal government has created a program called PRISM to resist these things from happening. Terrorists have gotten on and are trying to communicate with natural American citizens and trying to understand whats happening in America today. The PRISM programs hacks into accounts to see what people are talking about in their life to see if terrorists are into the system.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think the program PRISM is a good idea but also is invading your privacy... It is wrong to hack into someone's data or personal information without permission. Also, PRISM could protect our country in catching terrorists ahead of time. Then again, PRISM is also invading your privacy. There are innocent people out there but you never know who they are. I think they should ask you for permission personally somehow...? PRISM is both a good and kind of bad system. It is wrong to hack into someone's personal information without a warrant or whatever. :)

  41. Because the government finds it easier to have the information given than having to slowly collect it. They also probably do it to prevent bad things from happening.

  43. The Prism program help you collect data.like if other people from other state come over the goverment can use prism to get data. they use the data they on prism so they can use that to make sure they are not a terrorist to keep us in the United State safe.

  45. The goverment asks Facebook to make people think we as citezens still have the right to refuse requests from the goverment. And although asking may be a front, it is still easier to recieve wrapped packages of information from the source (Facebook) which all our messages and information pass through when on this site. In short, I think that the PRISM program is an easier way to obtain information but the goverment doesn't solely depend on the program because they can always resort to secretly "stealing" our info.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think that the PRISM program is different from just seeing someones personal stuff on the Internet. They use PRISM more often because it is a whole lot faster to just access your data than for you to get on your Facebook account.

    ReplyDelete
  47. The government needs programs like prism because even though they can tap into fiber optic lines they cant collect all the data on your account. The government saves a lot of trouble by demanding or extorting wrapped information packages like Facebook. I think that it's great that Facebook is informing you that different governments mainly our own is requesting our information.

    ReplyDelete

  52. The prism program is only to protect us. People are always complaining about how the government can look at your personnel stuff, yeah its pretty disturbing but their not going to be specifically checking out what your doing, unless your doing something your not supposed to, 24 hours a day. They can use it for something useful that might actually prevent stuff from happening in the united states, like terrorist or bombing or anything else.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The reason for the government using the PRISM program is so that it can get information from someone's account faster. This program may also help with stopping hackers on the internet. This is also telling us that the government has not been telling the truth that we have digital privacy. Though this program (PRISM) is invading your privacy, it may help stop terrorist from getting into our accounts.

  54. I think its actually a preety good idea to have the users data and information so the government will have it when he needs to track private activity. I don't agree that russia only gets 1 request and the U.S gets over a 1,000 just because of their human rights records. They need more watching and survilence thn we do!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. The government uses PRISM because it is more efficient. Using PRISM allows the government to obtain a large amount of information from accounts such as Facebook rather than to just get the information as you use your account. The facts in this passage mentions that the United States comes out as the number one place of the most active requests for Facebook information. This confirms that the government doesn't see digital privacy as something important.

  56. The united states has the most social network users in the world. Prism is a way of preventing people hacking your people from hacking into your information. Terrorists have got on a tried to understand america today. Terrorists have learned many things about the way america is today.

  57. The U.S. is the most online used country. The government has created a program called PRISM. PRISM is when the government can see the stuff you are doing on the internet and see if you're anything bad or illegal. One thing I do not like about prism is that they can go on your Facebook or whatever and see your data and the stuff you have been doing. The passage is saying basically that the Federal government can hack into your profile and see the stuff that you have been doing or even how much data that you have used.

    ReplyDelete
  58. In the first half of 2013, the U.S. logged between 11,000 and 12,000 requests for Facebook user data, involving 20,000 to 21,000 accounts. There has most likely been people who have hacked your account and know where you live or where you go to school. That's why they created the PRISM program , to try and keep these things from happening t he PRISM programs hacks into accounts to see what people are talking about in their life to see if terrorists are into the system. So hopefully this program will keep terroist from finding out anything. So the people in the united states will be safe by his program. But its also a bad thing because the government will know everything that you do and say. So you wont really have any privacy. They shouldn't be able to go through you private stuff. They should ask the person who's stuff they are wanting to look at before doing it. So the government invades people's privacy without them knowing and that's not right.

    ReplyDelete
  59. They have programs like Prism that require user data, so you can find out more about that person then what they really tell you about them self. Maybe it's not diving into they're personal privacy, but we should at least be able to learn more about someone from another country. But should we have user data? I say yes, because not everyone who they say they are, and If they don't have a criminal record, then the Prism progam would help shed a little light on that.

    ReplyDelete
  60. The government requests information from Facebook because it is a lot easier than slowly gathering information by hacking your account. Various systems are used to make sure they get whatever they want.

Keep in mind, if you take mental refuge in the figures at all, that this is merely one way that the U.S. government collects information on the digital activity of both its citizens and those abroad.

Prism is where the government can go into your account ( such as facebook or twitter ) to see what you are doing such as something dangerous or illegal. It has access to everything you do on the internet. In a way this is a very huge step for our country but then it is the access to someones private life and things that they want to keep between them and there husband or something as such.there is on thing i dislike about the program personally is that it will be able to go into all my data to see what i'm doing even if i want it just for i to see it.

  79. I think the reason the government has access to people's Facebook is because they would like to see some of the things going on. If they had access to people's profiles, they can see a lot of their personal information. A positive way to look at this is that they can see things that are illegal or against the law, and put a stop to them immediately. Looking at their profiles directly gives them proof of what is going on. On the other hand, the government is violating our privacy.
