The cockroaches are earthquake detectors in term. They are controlled by electrical pulses which is neat. They are small enough to fit into small areas for surveillance.
I think it's really cool the way scientist's use these roaches as cyborgs. The roaches have they're very own little bachpacks, antennae's, and cerci (what ever that is) to control them. To make this insect into a robot these guys froze them which causes them to hibernate and inserted remote powered gadgets inside of them with tweezler's and a microscope. they can pick up cries for help from they're backpacks. I never thought cockroaches could save lives, you can't tell me that is not awesome. :0

ReplyDeleteI think it is very strange. I don't like the fact that it is roaches.It could be very helpful and could possibly save many peoples lives. It's weird how something so small can help something so big.
ReplyDeleteI think its a very smart yet an unusual idea. Not many people would think cockroaches can help benefit our society or environment, i especially didn't before reading this article. I think it could possibly save many lives by letting us know a earthquake or such is coming. They are small creatures so they can move faster and get in smaller places than we can. If they improved this idea i think it could work.

ReplyDeleteI think that the roaches can help people alot.They can help find people in disasters and earthquakes and tornados.They can really help people,but I couldn't see that they really could use technology on roaches,but ok then.
ReplyDeleteI think using cockroaches to save lives is weird but a good idea because they can fit int small spaces and find people like earthquake survivors. Its interesting that cockroaches can't feel pain,the electrodes jest stimulate cells in their antennas and make them think there is an object in front of them so they turn and go another way.

ReplyDeleteIts amazing how our technology is advancing. The fact that we can attach a miniature chip on the back of a roach to control it is just mind boggling. That opens endless possibilities to the future.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that cyborg cockroachs are good idea. They would be better suited rescue missions in tight areas since that is practically their natural habitat. And the fact that scientist are doing this in a way that aren't hurting the little creatures. So I'm all for this idea.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I found truly interesting about this article is that they can do surgery on the roaches at all. I mean they are so small it is practically impossible. Also I found it great how we can use a creature that so many people are afraid of to be used to save their lives. I just find that truly amazing.

Thats crazy also i think the fact of a cyborg cockroach is also really cool also it is very hard to kill a cockroach it takes like two steps to kill it which means it can fight our battles. I also think it is interesting that a person was able to perform a successful surgery on such a tiny creature. It is good that we can use it for search and rescue missions and all of the other possibilities.

DeleteI think that it is amazing. It's unusual, but it's amazing. To think that they could take technology and put it on a roach so that they can control its movements and see its surroundings would be unheard of 20 years ago. This could certainly be helpful in certain situations such as a cave in at a mine. It could be very beneficial.

With the things that scientist come up with now and when people are having surgery and needs a certain type of procedure done, the cockroaches can get to a place the doctors cant and probably make a big difference in other lives.

I also never thought that someone would perform "surgery" on a cockroach, Like putting a thing in them to make them stop, go and turn. Or putting glue on it's back to carry a "backpack" that has a locator in it and a little microphone to hear people that are crying for help. But it is a good idea!

I really like how they found a way to control the cockroaches by using their natural instincts instead of by administering pain.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a really big fan of cockroaches; anybody could tell you that. I would have never thought about a cockroach saving a human's life. The cockroaches are having chips inserted into them so they could find us in case of an eathquake.

It also apparently doesn't hurt the disgusting thing, so it's ethical. My only objection is the fact that I'm highly allergic to cockroaches, and I'm sure there are others who are too. Couldn't that kill me just as fast as being trapped from an earthquake?

ReplyDeleteThe cockroaches are earthquake detectors in term. They are controlled by electrical pulses which is neat. They are small enough to fit into small areas for surveillance.
ReplyDeleteI think it's really cool the way scientist's use these roaches as cyborgs. The roaches have they're very own little bachpacks, antennae's, and cerci (what ever that is) to control them. To make this insect into a robot these guys froze them which causes them to hibernate and inserted remote powered gadgets inside of them with tweezler's and a microscope. they can pick up cries for help from they're backpacks. I never thought cockroaches could save lives, you can't tell me that is not awesome. :0
